Apple to Invest $1 billion in Sharp LCD Plant?

Apple to Invest $1 billion in Sharp LCD Plant? LCD Plant?
A report from Reuters claims that Apple is interested in investing $1 billion in Sharp to be guaranteed a steady supply of LCDs for their range of devices. It was rumored earlier this week that Apple would be pushing back the release of the iPad 3 to 2012 due to display shortages, so investing in a LCD manufacturer like Sharp would ease the bottleneck and allow Apple to stick to a more regular release schedule.

“We think it is highly possible that Apple will make an investment in Sharp’s Kameyama plant to the tune of around $1 billion in order to secure stable supply of screens for iPhones and iPads,” analyst David Rubenstein said in the note.
